Washing the dishes is an everyday activity that is usually performed by you and your family rather than Charlotte Maid services. Robot vacuum cleaners have become a commonality in our homes, but the dishwasher was really our first house cleaning robot. Having said that, proper use of the dishwasher is much more than throwing the dishes in and pushing a button. Are you getting the sparkling dishes, glasses, and silverware that you expect when you use your dishwasher? We want to offer some tips below, that may help you make even better use of one of the most useful appliances in your kitchen.
Preparing your dishes
Just as washing machines and dryers have gotten “smarter” over the years, so has your dishwasher. Anyone who is a baby boomer remembers how important it was to rinse the dishes clean before placing them in those early dishwashers. However, with today’s modern dishwashers, you don’t need to put clean dishes in a dishwasher. Simply scrape the plates and pans and place them on the appropriate rack. It is still necessary to soak and scrape pans and plates that have burnt or glued-on food. It is far more important to make sure that you are only adding pots, plates, and containers that are designated as “dishwasher safe.”
Make your dishwasher more efficient
Your dishwasher works most efficiently when it is loaded properly. When your dishwasher is completely empty, observe the water jets that are typically located on the top and bottom of the machine. This will make it easier for you to understand how the water is directed during the wash and rinse cycles. This understanding will guide you when loading the dishes and silverware.
Proper loading tips
When loading the bottom rack, place the tallest items around the perimeter to avoid blocking complete water flow. The dirty side of plates, and pans should face toward the center. Alternate between small and large plates, will provide greater efficiency from the water jets. Your dirtiest dishes should always be in the center. The top rack is usually reserved for glasses and plastic containers. In fact, you should place all heat sensitive items on the top rack in order to avoid exposing them to the heating element. Glasses should never touch each other. “It would be best to alternate glasses and plastic cups.
Using the silverware basket
Depending upon the age of your dishwasher, your silverware basket will be located in the door, or on the bottom rack. Just understand that the silverware basket is always positioned to receive the full force of the water jets. Therefore, you need to make sure that dishes or pan do not cover or block the basket. In order to avoid injury, sharp knives should be loaded with the pointed end down. It makes no difference if other utensils are up or down, as long as they are not stuck together in a way that will prevent water spray to reach them.
Just like a washing machine, your dishwasher has several settings for a reason. The various settings are designed to protect your dishes, and are intended to conserve energy and water. This includes the heat and dry settings. We hope these tips will save you time and money, and add that extra sparkle to your dishes.
