Clutter in the kitchen
Summer season is the perfect time of year for relaxation, but it is also ideal for some forms of seasonal house cleaning. We are coming into the long dry spell of summer weather, which is ideal for yard sales. Yard sales are a wonderful way to rid our homes of clutter, and today we would like to focus on the kitchen. If you are like the average person, your kitchen drawers and cabinets are bursting with cookbooks, utensils, plates, glasses, and plastic containers that you may never use again. All this extra stuff, along with rarely used appliances, can also leave countertops too cluttered to be functional. So, get ready for a yard sale because we want to offer some tips to help you make your kitchen clean and clutter-free.
Get the dishes out
Get the dishes out… not to set the table, but to make room for only the useful items that you need. Do you have a large collection of mix and match dishes? You probably have enough dishes, utensils, cups, and glasses to set a table setting for a small army. Ask yourself, “How many coffee mugs can I really use?” You can be sure that as we go through life, we will collect glasses and dishes, keeping them far longer than we need to. A sure sign that you have more than you need is when you find yourself moving things out of the way to get to the things you use the most. Start the de-cluttering process by taking a look at your dishes, and how you use them.
Too many small appliances
Those bouts of insomnia may have kept you up just late enough to watch infomercials touting magic toasters and miraculous microwaves. Hence, your counters are filled with small appliances that you use once every five years. If you have a difficult time letting go of these appliances, tape a note to them that has the date you put it into storage. When you have not used the appliance in a year, it is probably time to sell it or donate it.
Elemental or sentimental?
One of the main reasons we end up with clutter is because we keep items for sentimental reasons. Perhaps someone gave you a cheese cutter for Christmas. In some cases, it is best to let your teenager, or significant other weed out unnecessary items in the kitchen. We are not trying to make life difficult for you, the goal is to give you the space to keep your most useful and cherished items, while creating more room and sparkle to your kitchen.
