Spring cleaning your apartment
Apartment dwellers need spring cleaning just like home owners. Every March and April, you can count on the return of baseball, cherry tree blossoms, outdoor barbecues, and spring cleaning. Once the weather warms up and the spring flowers bloom, you want to open up the windows and let the sunshine in. However, you cannot fully enjoy the beauty of spring without clearing out the cobwebs of winter and getting your apartment looking spotless again. We hope to show you how to tackle each chore one at a time so that you do not get overwhelmed and give up. The following are a few things that every apartment dweller needs to focus on for spring cleaning.
Clean all your appliances
Do you have splattered food particles on the inside walls of your microwave? Does your coffee taste terrible because of the buildup of mold in your coffee maker? Spring is a great time to clean out the drain and the stains in your dishwasher. One of the first things that will help you enjoy meals more is to remove and clean out those scary looking containers in the fridge. Not only will you benefit from a cleaner, brighter looking kitchen, you will greatly reduce your chances of picking up a lot of germs.
Dust your blinds and furniture
Take your finger and run it along all the flat surfaces throughout your apartment. Dust can go completely unnoticed because its buildup is gradual and fairly even. Over the winter, your blinds and furniture have collected a lot of dust. One of our favorite tips is to use a microfiber duster or soft cloth. Make sure that the blinds are completely closed so that all of the slats are facing the same way. Dust them gently, moving in the same direction as the slats. Tilt the blinds in the opposite direction and dust again. Use a microfiber cloth or duster for all furniture surfaces.
Deep clean your tub and bathroom cabinets
Even though you cleaning your tub or shower weekly, spring cleaning takes it up a notch. After cleaning the tub or shower surface, you should focus on grout or mold and mildew in caulked areas. This is the time to replace your shower liner and plastic hooks. Medicine cabinets are often overlooked when it comes to clutter. Check to see if your medications or makeup has expired and toss them out if that is the case.
De-clutter your bedroom
Your bedroom should be as uncluttered as possible. When you begin your seasonal or spring cleaning, you should always begin there. Spring is the time to remove any unnecessary items in order to keep the room light and airy. If the weather is warm enough, put away the winter bedding and replace it with lightweight blankets and comforters. Mattresses should be flipped four times a year, starting in the spring. Not only does flipping the mattress increase its lifespan, it is also healthier for your back.
Clean the floors and carpets
Carpets are one of the most common areas to find dust and debris. Spring cleaning is the perfect time to give them a good shampoo. This is especially important if you have a pet. Hard floor surfaces should be cleaned and polished.
